The antependium, on a white silk gros de Tours ground, is embroidered with a dense network of vine shoots with plant and floral motifs that converges at the centre where, encircled by pearls with a notched profile, a white silk taffeta medallion with the painting the Ascension of Beata Giulia supported in flight by two angels is applied.
The valuable piece was an ornament for the urn with the remains of Beata Giulia. After fifteen years of painstaking restoration, due to poor conservation conditions, incautious restorations and the fragility of the materials, in 2019 the artifact returned to the Museum for the exhibition “Devotion and Artistic Evidence for Beata Giulia”, commissioned by the Provostship of San Tommaso Apostolo in commemoration of the seven hundredth anniversary of the birth of the patron saint of Certaldo.
