The Museum of the Convent of Certaldo Alto offers a rich program of guided tours that provide an immersive experience into the history, art, and daily life of the medieval village. Through thematic routes, visitors can discover Certaldo’s past, from its feudal origins to the cultural flourishing linked to Giovanni Boccaccio, and the religious and civic traditions that have shaped the area.

The proposed experiences combine outdoor walks, exploring walls, towers, and historic alleys, with access to places of great artistic and historical value, such as Palazzo Pretorio, the medieval churches, and the Museum of Sacred Art. Each itinerary is designed to offer a unique perspective on the village and its protagonists, through engaging stories and historical details that bring past centuries to life.

# Cerrus Altus

Departure: Convent of the Augustinians

A journey through time to discover the village of Cerrus Altus in its formative years, when it was born as a fortified castle and developed amidst wars, sieges, and struggles for territorial dominance. Through an engaging narrative, we will retrace the days when great families, including the Alberti Counts, vied for control of the surrounding countryside, until the arrival of the unstoppable power that would forever change the fate of the village: Florence.

Certaldo Alto was the cradle of Giovanni Boccaccio, the home of Blessed Giulia, and the seat of a Florentine Vicariate that for three centuries marked the political and administrative life of the region.

From the Church of Saints Jacopo and Filippo, a treasure chest of sacred relics from different eras and contexts, to the strong devotion to Blessed Giulia, still venerated today. We will also discover the disputes between the powerful Augustinians and the Gianfigliazzi family, the troubled history of the Church of Saints Tommaso and Prospero, and the small but precious signs of faith scattered along the streets of Certaldo Alto.
